His resignation sends a wrong signal to him, the men who served under his command the global community of US allies, and the American people.

First Count: ON January 8, 2021, Gen Milley was asked to participate in a Coup against the President of the United States, Donald J Trump. Pelosi demanded he turn over the Nuclear Codes" Football" to her. This also, makes her the perpetrator of the Coup. Gen Milley did decline, but then committed Treason by not making public his direct knowledge of a planned Coup against POTUS.. He did not report the Treason he had knowledge of to any higher authority, Congress, SCOTUS or his General staff. He did not tell the public. What if the coup included an assassination attempt? True, he declined to take part, However, by keeping this knowledge to himself, he placed the President and the entire nation at risk. It was not his decision alone to determine what other actions Pelosi had in mind. He and the entire nation knew that Pelosi is dangerous and would stop at nothing to take down our President. Armed with this known Coup Pelosi Planned. He committed Treason by not warning others of the pending action by an unhinged Speaker who had other potential resources to effect her Coup..
Second Count: Afghanistan. Gen Milley had knowledge that he wouuld be facing a Taliban take over by our enemies in 11 days. He did not act . He could have removed our US citizens, and our weapons, He should ave found other ways to secure the prisoners who many Americans fought and gave ttheir lives for to capture and jail. He could have removed all US weapons, or at least started the process. He should have started to evacuate all known US citizens in an effort to save their lives, and prevent them from being Taliban Hostages. He did nothing, and thus is culpable for the consequences, He failed , with all the resources at his command to prevent a much less superior force from taking US citizens as hostages because of his ineptitude. The only reason seems to be he did not want America to succeed. That is treason for a general to lay down his arms when confronted by a force he could clearly defeat or hold at bay until he could safely do three major actions. Remove all US citizens from harms way, safely evacuate this troops as ordered by a demented and inept POTUS, . He should never have left such a large amount of weapons and warfare technology that would give aid and comfort to the enemy for years to come.
