Like in any US court system there is a trial with a verdict which may lead to an appeal if the accused can show he did not get a fair, legal trial. The only difference is the creators of the Constitution combined this process into ONE [ House votes / Senate Confirms] since it involves the president and they wanted to avoid a purely political situation of the opposing political party removing him as they do in Parliament when they can muster a “Vote of no Confidence” against the Prime Minister or a fellow member. The authors of the US Constitution did not favor the Parliamentary system they had just thrown off. Thus, the Trial and appeal process was put into the structure of having the House propose and vote for Impeachment, and the process was to be completed by the Senate acting as a check and balance with the Lower branch [the House] and the Upper Branch ] the Senate]. Note, the other branch [ the Judiciary] presided over the “appeal” process in the Senate. Note too, that the Chief Justice did not raise any Judicial points that would curtail the actions of the Senate. Thus, you have the Senate, The Executive and the Judicial branches agreeing to Exonerate the President of the erroneous  and unconstitutional charges [ 1, abuse of power for his foreign policy in the Ukraine and 2. “obstruction of Congress”- he pissed off Nancy?] the Lower House based their Impeachment upon. Neither of these charges are anywhere to be found in Congress or the Federalist Documents, so The reason for Senate acquittal based on the witnesses and testimony the House provided is they did not prove their case “Beyond a reasonable Doubt” and further, any person on trial is “Presumed Innocent until proven guilty”. These are the two main pillars of the US justice system. The Senate, the President and the Chief Justice all agreed that the final outcome is fair and Just. Now comes the Democrats who lost their poorly constructed case, and like some little kid in sandlot baseball who just “struck” out THEY WANT[ no DEMAND A -“DO OVER”. When will they ever stop losing and crying about their own incompetence?
